Coverage note
This is a comparison framework, not a product test or universal specification. The right floor depends on court type, players, climate, subfloor, use and the applicable technical requirements.
What the floor has to do
Players accelerate, stop, turn and recover in a small area. The floor therefore affects traction, confidence, fatigue, injury risk, ball response, noise, cleaning and downtime.
Ask the supplier to define the complete build-up, not just the visible top layer. That may include slab or subfloor, battens or supports, resilient layers, tiles or boards, adhesive, finish, line marking and edge details.

Timber floors
Timber remains a common squash-court choice, but species, construction, finish and installation matter. A floor that looks attractive may still have unsuitable grip, movement or moisture behaviour.
HARO describes its Melbourne 65 F sports parquet as a squash and racquetball floor and states that it has World Squash Federation approval. Junckers publishes a squash flooring proposition. These are manufacturer statements to verify against the current product and project requirements, not Squash Dog test results.
When refurbishing timber, ask whether sanding can remove the defect without compromising the remaining wear layer. Confirm the finish, curing period and line-marking method before booking the court back into use.
Rubber and synthetic floors
Rubber and synthetic systems may be attractive where installation speed, cushioning, moisture resistance, multi-use or lower routine maintenance is important. Those benefits are not automatic, and a court owner should ask for squash-specific evidence.

DYNAMIK describes sports-floor design, specification, supply, installation and maintenance. Each proposition still needs to be assessed against the specific court, users and operating plan.
Outdoor surfaces
An outdoor floor must perform when exposed to rain, dust, temperature change, UV and drainage demands. A surface that is acceptable indoors may not be appropriate outside.
For an outdoor proposal, request the wet-grip method, drainage path, falls, sub-base, drying assumptions, edge details, cleaning method, weather-closure rules and replacement plan. Consider the effect of surface colour and glare on players, neighbours and cameras.
Questions to put in the quote
- What complete floor system is proposed, and what existing substrate is assumed?
- What evidence supports grip, shock response, ball behaviour, slip performance and relevant standards?
- How will the floor be prepared, levelled, installed, cured, marked and handed over?
- What cleaning products, machines, inspection intervals, sanding limits and renewal assumptions apply?
- What happens after local damage, water ingress, contamination or a failed line marking?
- What downtime, warranty exclusions, spare parts and installer responsibilities should the operator budget for?
