Outdoor squash in Pingelly

Pingelly Youth Precinct Outdoor Squash Court

A Shire-led outdoor squash court planned beside PRACC under Pingelly’s Youth Strategy 2021–25, predating Squash Dog. Completion and opening remain unconfirmed as of 16 October 2026.

Planned referenceReviewed

The Shire of Pingelly leads the Youth Strategy 2021–25 project. Its updated concept includes an outdoor squash court adjacent to PRACC. These plans predate Squash Dog; we did not design, fund or deliver this project.

A youth precinct, with distinct locations

The Shire’s updated concept places Ninja Park, Outdoor Squash Court and Pickleball Court adjacent to PRACC. Pump track, future skate park and Youth Centre belong to the separate Memorial Park area. The Narrogin Observer’s August 2025 report also described upgraded tennis near PRACC, with pump track and mountain-bike trails elsewhere in town.

Plans are not an opening announcement

The Narrogin Observer reported on 20 August 2025 that works were expected by mid-October 2025. Council minutes that day also name the outdoor squash court without confirming completion. The later 21 January 2026 committee agenda lists completion of the PRACC ninja park, outdoor squash court and pickleball courts in the 2025/26 outlook. Neither that outlook nor the strategy page verifies an opening.

Always-accessible was the intended model

The August 2025 article reports the CEO’s intention for outdoor court access to be available “24/7” independently of PRACC opening hours. That is a planned access model, not a verified current policy. Public or casual use, opening hours, fees, equipment and operating arrangements remain unconfirmed.

Precinct funding, not a court budget

The Observer reported A$717,475 for precinct stage one from Lotterywest, Commonwealth Government and Shire contributions. Shire News on 5 June 2024 recorded A$415,169, A$267,597 and A$34,709 respectively, for a then-stated scope of pump track, youth centre, minor works and ninja park, not squash. Later reporting describes grant-funded court upgrades but gives no squash-specific allocation. These amounts must not be presented as the squash court’s cost or funding.

An attributed Australian first claim

The Observer described “Australia’s first-ever outdoor squash court”, attributing the assertion to Squash WA. We have not independently verified that claim. This planned community court should be distinguished from temporary outdoor show courts; a headline is not proof of either national priority or completion.

What Let’s Bounce can learn

The plan links squash with a wider youth activity precinct and an intended access model independent of an indoor venue. A useful next step is to establish delivery milestones, an accountable operator and practical participation arrangements, rather than treat planned facilities as places already available to play.

Before you visit

Check with the local operator

Completion, opening, public or casual access and current operation remain unverified as of 16 October 2026. Do not travel expecting an available squash court. Ask the Shire of Pingelly for a completion update and squash-specific access arrangements; the reported 24/7 intention is not confirmed availability.
