A community squash initiative that developed open-air concrete courts and youth programmes in El Salvador, including a reported four-court facility in the San Salvador area.
Delivered referenceReviewed
Squash Mad reports that Carlos Schonenberg created four outdoor courts for Squash Para Todos in El Salvador. A separate 2020 school project in Santa Tecla involved two courts at Centro Escolar Marcelino García Flamenco, developed with Fundación Gloria de Kriete, sPorts reimaGined and Glasswing. These are distinct project records. Squash Dog did not deliver either project.

Outdoor courts built around community access
Squash Mad reported four outdoor courts created by Carlos Schonenberg for Squash Para Todos. A later report described the facility as having sustained minor hurricane damage in 2022, with organisers planning repairs and upgrades. The sources reviewed do not confirm the complex’s present condition or public access terms.
A youth development pathway
The project is associated with a community programme introducing squash to young people. In a separate 2020 initiative, two courts opened at a school in Santa Tecla, with more than 400 pupils expected to encounter squash through physical education and extracurricular sessions. That school installation should not be conflated with the four-court complex.
A different construction model
The four courts are described by squash-sector reporting as low-cost open-air concrete courts. This differs from glass-court installations and shows how local materials and a community-led approach can shape delivery. No independent court-standard or certification claim is made here.
What Let’s Bounce can learn
The example links infrastructure to ongoing coaching and youth pathways. A comparable programme would need local leadership, safe and welcoming sessions, equipment, maintenance and a realistic route from first play to continued participation.
